We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Regan McCreight. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Regan below.
Regan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have always loved creating, but I did not have the goal of becoming a professional artist until two years ago. Painting was always a meditative outlet for me to express myself, it’s not always easy with words. I would gift my art to my friends and family and eventually people started reaching out for commissions. Once I started getting encouragement from my community and believing in myself, I decided I owed it to myself to pursue my passion professionally and it’s become one of the most fulfilling decisions of my life.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Regan McCreight is a Saint Petersburg, Florida artist specializing in psychedelic surrealism. Her mediums include acrylic paint, spray paint, watercolor, and body painting. She enjoys live painting at events and connecting with others through music, movement, and art. Regan’s pieces are bold and chromatic- intended to provoke reflection and encourage others to embrace their true unique expression in this world. You can find her paintings, whether canvas or murals, throughout Florida in galleries, restaurants, and music festivals! Her mantra is stay grateful, be kind, and have fun doing it. Regan is currently accepting mural commissions and would love to help you breathe life into your home, rental home, or business!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to encourage others to embrace their individuality. We all have something within us that makes us special and unique, sometimes it can be hard to view that as a gift rather than an insecurity. As a 6 foot 2-inch woman, I always felt as if I ‘stuck out’ and for a long time that made me really uncomfortable. I was bullied in school when I was growing up because of it and for a long time I was upset that I was different. I now realize that my height is one of my biggest blessings, especially as a painter- getting up and down a ladder is a real workout hah! I had to accept myself for who I am and learn to love myself. I want to encourage others through art to do the same. We are all enough, we are all worthy. In a world of competition and comparison, be yourself and be proud of being different.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There is truly no better feeling than when someone connects with a painting that you have poured your heart and soul into. Sometimes the act of sharing can be scary because the painting is so deeply personal and vulnerable. I have seen reactions to my work ranging from laughter to tears- I am grateful for both. It is important to push past discomfort and connect to art and the community we find ourselves in. We live in a world that is more digitally connected than ever before, and yet many of us struggle with feeling alone. There is opportunity and strength in vulnerability.
