We recently connected with Randi Crawford and have shared our conversation below.
Randi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
The biggest risk I ever took was moving to Atlanta, Georgia, and becoming a full time hairstylist. Having absolutely no family here, or prior clientele, this was a fresh start for me. Fresh out of college at Thee Alabama State University, I made my move back in 2018 with nothing but faith. Boy did it all pay off in the end! With consistency, hard work, and dedication, I am now running my hair business full time, successfully. The rooms that I have been in, the people I have been able to work with, I cant be anymore thankful and grateful! I hope to spread this energy to anyone that’s scared to take that risk!
Randi, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Randi Crawford. I am from Chicago, IL. My passion for hair started at the little age of 6yrs old. Playing with doll heads, and having braid competitions with my big sister to see who did the best look. My sister always won but my dad would rule it a tie! LOL. This passion followed me literally everywhere. I can remember being in summer camp braiding my friends hair because their braids would look old. My sister and i even use to have our own business cards when we were younger “RGirlz braiding” Fast forward to high school I began taking my own clients which followed me throughout my college career. While I graduated with my degree in chemistry, I realized that hair has been the only consistent aspect in my life and that I should spend more time to focus on that. I offer weave and braiding services, and i take much pride and accountability in my work. My ultimate goal while servicing clients is to give them an authentic, professional experience as I give them the look they desire. I believe that is what sets me aside from everyone else. My discipline in my craft comes from many many years of trial and error. I now know how to prioritize and not overworking myself, while still making ends meet. I am most proud of my ability to always uplift and keep going in the midst of those storms. I want my potential followers to know that I worked hard to be where I am today, with over 10 years of experience in the industry. I still have many of ways to go, and I can’t wait to see what the future has to hold!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social media audience by just staying true to what I do. I’ve had my instagram page since 2014 and i now have 12k followers. I believe that if you are just starting, never get discouraged on how many likes or views you may receive. You should focus on the consistency of what you’re posting. Every time you post, someone will see it! That should be your motivation to keep going. And remember that you have to crawl before you walk.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I love to give each client a very personal experience, and i am very understanding. I believe that plays a part in my brands loyalty. I also have a VIP group for my loyal returning clients, which allows them early access to book their appointments.
